The American Association of Crimean Turks, (AACT)* members, whose history reflects struggles against Soviet communism and expression of its religious tradition, appreciates and values the freedoms granted under the First Amendment of the United States Constitution which states:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances”.
Additionally, the First Amendment was applied to each State, New York State stated similarly the following: “ That the people have an equal, natural, and unalienable right freely and peaceably to exercise their religion, according to the dictates of conscience; and that no religious sect or society ought to be favored or established by law in preference to others”. |

James Madison, on June 8, 1789, considered to be the “Father of the Constitution”, introduced during his speech at the House of Congress on a series of articles of amendment, one concerned religious freedom: “The civil rights of none shall be abridged on account of religious belief or worship, nor shall any national religion be established, nor shall the full and equal rights of conscience be in any manner, or on any pretext, infringed”.
The international community under Article 18 of the U.N. International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights states, …” is a form of (spiritual) injustice when persons are denied the liberty to exercise their religious freedom”.
The Mosque of the Crimean Turks of America with its members and visitors enjoy and appreciate the charitable status and since its incorporation of 1961 has been conducting activities, events and all things incidental to the extent permitted by the Religious Corporations and in accordance with the regulations of a 501 c 3 non-profit Internal Revenue code and the Corporation Laws of the State of New York . |
